Peter Edmonds is a Jesuit priest who after studies in Rome, spent many years in Africa teaching the New Testament, first at the Regional Seminary in Zimbabwe and then at Hekima College, the Jesuit School of Theology for Africa,  in Nairobi, Kenya. He is the author of books on the Sunday Lectionary, on the Gospel of Luke in particular and on the Synoptic gospels in general.    He is now based in Oxford at Campion Hall, where he is librarian and a tutor in biblical studies.

'Mark's gospel is widely considered as the oldest and the best of the gospels. It  forms a  dramatic and carefully constructed narrative with a broad variety of characters and settings.  Produced in a situation of crisis many centuries ago, it continues to offer great rewards for Christians of today who are  prepared to listen to it and to respond to its gospel message in prayer.  Jesus continues to ask, 'What  do you want me to do for you?' (Mark 10:36,51)
